The final quarter of 2023 turned out to be a busy one for the superyacht jobs market, with a 39% increase in the number of placements made.
It was the larger yachts that dominated the job market again, with one in three of our placements being made onboard 90m+ superyachts, and a quarter of roles were senior. These factors may have contributed to the slight average salary increase of 4%, taking the monthly average across all departments to €5,336.
Following on from the previous quarter, there was a similar number of temporary placements made and the percentage split of jobs across all departments also remained indifferent.
The average monthly salaries by department were as follows:
- Deck – €4,249
- Engineering – €6,769
- Interior – €4,887
- Shoreside – €7,576
In terms of leave, there was a slight decline (6%) in the number of roles offering rotation, but time for time increased nominally while those with less than 45 days leave dropped to 1.5%.
What is clear from the latest superyacht jobs market review is the demand for secondary skilled crew, with 15% of the placements requiring additional experience including kitesurfing, carpentry, hairdressing, massage and even a DJ.
The first quarter of 2024 has also got off to a great start and is very busy and upbeat. There are a lot of yacht sales happening which is bringing in many jobs and candidates, and we’re also the busiest we have ever been with Captain roles in the 40-60m size bracket.
