Role Overview

This position provides technical support to a managed fleet of yachts. The Technical Manager is responsible for building strong working relationships with Owners, Captains, and Chief Engineers, resolving technical issues, ensuring safety at sea, and maintaining vessel integrity.

The role includes day-to-day technical guidance, conducting inspections, supporting warranty services, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Regular international travel may be required, occasionally on short notice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong relationships with Captains, Chief Engineers, crew, and owners.

  • Manage technical compliance issues in line with internal Safety Management Systems (SMS).

  • Provide proactive technical support across the managed fleet.

  • Assist with fault resolution, emergency support, and spare part procurement.

  • Support implementation or review of onboard Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).

  • Collaborate with Yacht Managers, Accountants, and Designated Persons Ashore (DPAs).

  • Oversee yacht compliance through review of reports, defect logs, and critical systems.

  • Conduct annual technical inspections, including use of software tools such as MMV and Safety Culture.

  • Stay updated on and advise regarding regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in the company’s emergency response protocols and drills.

  • Assist with reviewing and managing operational budgets.

  • Liaise with classification societies, flag states, shipyards, and insurers.

  • Provide warranty management services for newly managed yachts.

  • Develop and manage refit specifications and tender processes.

  • Oversee refit projects either onsite or remotely, depending on scale and scope.

  • Monitor refit budgets and timelines, attending planning and progress meetings as required.


Commercial Focus

  • Identify refit opportunities and areas for expanded management services.

  • Recognise and propose new business opportunities within the existing fleet.

  • Contribute to onboarding proposals for potential new clients or vessels.

  • Ensure accurate accounting of all services rendered.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience as a Chief Engineer (commercial or yachting – Y1) or 2nd Engineer; OR
    Experience as Technical Superintendent, Naval Architect, Class Surveyor, or Refit Project Manager.

  • Solid understanding of maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, IACS, SSC, REG Code, Flag protocols).

  • Strong background in project, refit, or new build management.

  • Prior experience in the yacht industry is preferred.

  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with MMV or similar PMS/yacht management software preferred.

Position Summary

The Technical Superintendent is responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of yard refit periods for a fleet of large vessels. This role ensures all refit activities are carried out to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency while adhering to budgetary and timeline constraints. The position requires a Chief Engineer Unlimited with extensive sea-going experience on large yachts and at least 2–3 years of land-based yard management expertise. The successful candidate will act as a key technical authority, ensuring the fleet’s operational readiness and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Refit Planning and Preparation

•Collaborate with onboard Chief Engineers to scope and define refit requirements.

•Develop detailed project plans, including technical specifications, budgets, and schedules.

•Conduct pre-refit inspections and align on project objectives with relevant stakeholders.

•Identify and select suitable yard facilities, contractors, and suppliers.

2. Yard Refit Management

•Supervise and manage all technical and logistical aspects of the refit process.

•Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with regulatory, classification society, and safety requirements.

•Act as the primary liaison between the vessels, yard personnel, and contractors during the refit period.

•Oversee major technical works, including propulsion systems, electrical installations, and interior refurbishments.

3. Stakeholder Communication

•Maintain clear and regular communication with captains, Chief Engineers, and owners’ representatives.

•Provide frequent project updates, including progress reports, budget tracking, and risk management plan

4. Quality Control and Technical Assurance

•Monitor the quality of all refit works, ensuring alignment with agreed standards and specifications.

•Conduct post-refit inspections, including sea trials, to verify vessel readiness and operational performance.

5. Budget and Cost Oversight

•Track project expenditures and maintain control over refit budgets.

•Approve invoices and monitor cost variances, providing justifications for any adjustments.

Key Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory Qualifications:

•Chief Engineer Unlimited Certification (STCW III/2) with extensive experience operating 100m+ vessels.

•2–3 years of land-based experience managing large yacht or commercial vessel refits.

•In-depth knowledge of superyacht systems, including propulsion, electrical, HVAC, and auxiliary systems.

•Familiarity with ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and class requirements.

Preferred Experience:

•Experience managing advanced superyacht technologies and SMS systems.

•Proficiency in project management tools and software.

Skills and Attributes

  • 80m Dual season Private motor yacht are looking for a Bosun to join them 8th/9th of May – potential for flexibility on start dates

 

  • They are looking for a Bosun that can hit the ground running and is coming from a smaller yacht looking to make a step up in size. Lead deckhands from larger yachts will also be considered!

 

  • Prestigious build yacht with Med & Caribbean cruising running a family style operation with lots of watersports!

2nd Stew required for 45m MY – New build – exciting new project 

  • We are looking for a 2nd Stew to join this new build 45m project at the latest end of May – for the right person, this could be earlier 
  • Candidates will have a couple of years solid experience with some longevity on your CV 
  • The yacht will be delivered September and then do a month long Med trip before going back to the yard for warranty work 
  • The yacht will then cross to Costa Rica and be based there, then going world cruising, returning to Costa Rica as a home base 
  • Candidates will be of a healthy mind set and enjoy living an active life. The owners are very into health & wellness so if you are similarly minded that would be great! 
  • This won't be a role for perhaps perfecting your silver service and cocktails as the family are quite casual and enjoy buffet style eating and aren't drinkers but you will have plenty of opportunity to lead service on board as the Chief is taken away with the owners
