The Director of Quay Crew will be presenting a two-hour standalone session on “all aspects of sourcing, securing and managing crew” on the next intake of the industry-renowned Command & Senior Leadership Course delivered by The Crew Academy.

His sessions will complement the HR, Recruitment & Retention modules presented by Emma Neill and also incorporate how to create a positive onboard culture that promotes good mental health and crew longevity following the release of the recruiter’s recent mental health report.

The course, which starts on 15th February, will provide more than 20 senior crew with the knowledge and tools needed to lead, manage and maintain a productive crew and effective onboard environment.

Over 130 hours of live virtual lectures, online learning and self-development will be delivered in a three-part programme over a six-month period.

Tim will be joined by 10 other subject matter experts who will cover an additional 18 modules including self & personal effectiveness, conflict & collaboration and listening & communication.

As a business leader himself, Tim will also be taking a seat on the other side of the screen as a course participant.

He commented: “I’ve long been a believer in any form of professional development, particularly in leadership and management because it is so crucial to any business and often lays the foundations for success in almost every other area.

“In the yachting sector, however, its not recommended nearly enough and if there was one key takeaway from our crew mental health survey, it was that poor leadership is contributing to stress, burnout and crew tension which in turn leads to poor mental health.

“From a personal perspective, I want to take part in the course to ensure I’m continually improving my management skills and learning new strategies and techniques. I’ve heard amazing feedback from those who have already completed it.

“From a speaker point of view, this collaboration has been in the making for some time and I’m delighted to be able to share my expertise to support senior crew to build and retain a happy, healthy and valuable team.”

The Command & Senior Leadership Course was launched by The Crew Academy in 2021, with over 40 Captains and HODs currently studying or having graduated the programme. Feedback has included “transformational”, “outstanding” and “brilliant”.

Andrew Roch, Founder of The Crew Academy, added: “We are delighted to be welcoming Tim to the cohort as both student and speaker. Tim’s journey will hopefully mirror that of Capt Brendan O’Shaughnessy who also was a student and speaker and who has since risen to the challenge of becoming a firm fixture on our keynote circuit. Tim’s insight into recruitment from a corporate perspective as well as yachting background will be invaluable to all fellow students, and we all look forward to getting a more personal insight into his journey form yacht crew member to business leader. Welcome Tim to the programme!”

A handful of places remain on the February course intake. The platform goes live on 14th February with the first live lecture taking place on 22nd February. To find out more and register for a place, visit https://www.thecrewacademy.com/command-leadership.
